North East Ohio is noted for its music scene. World renowned orchestras, great venues and where the term "Rock and Roll" was first coined
Cleveland Orchestra is hailed as "one of the best orchestras on the planet". Enjoy it at Severance Hall in Cleveland or at its summer home at the Blossom Music center. For us, no summer is complete without a concert on the lawn under the stars with a picnic basket and glass of wine.
A unique and lively ensemble, specializing in early music from Baroque, Renaissance to Appellation Folk. Performs at Churches arround the region and tours internationally
In recognition of Cleveland's early leadership in the development of Rock & Roll. Worth going to again and again with continually changing special exhibits
Places to visit, arts
Built by FA Seiberling, co-founder of the Goodyear tire company, this is a magnificent house to tour (especially at Christmas lights time) and the gardens in Summer are a continuously changing delight. Great events include Shakespeare performances on an outdoor stage by the lagoon - another picnic and glass of wine opportunity!
A great way to see the Cuyahoga Valley! Just take a relaxing train ride, or in Summer, try the hike/bike/run/kayak -aboard adventure. Your chosen means of transport in one direction, then back to the start on the train.
Berlin is a central Amish destination about 90 minutes drive. A bit touristy for our tastes, but the surrounding countryside is beautiful (especially on the quiet back roads by bicycle - maps available). On your way, you could check out Lehman's hardware store in Kidron, hike the Wilderness Center in Wilmot and many great local furniture factories/stores around Berlin. Head back through Sugarcreek and the Age of Steam museum. Finish up in Zoar Village, a must see National Historic Landmark.
A National Historic Landmark and must see for any visit to the area. Combine with a day out in Amish country or worth a visit by itself, less than 1 hour drive from Hudson. We always enjoy walking around the village and love this quiet part of the Ohio & Erie Canal towpath. Afterwards, we often end up at Lockport Brewery or Sublime Smoke barbecue joint.
Just a 40 minute drive and with so much to do. Here's an itinerary we enjoyed one Sunday recently
Edgewater Park: a morning stroll around this park on the shores of Lake Erie.
Prosperity Social Club: the "most Cleveland of bars" in the interesting Tremont District. Good for brunch
Apollo's Fire: Matinee concert in Cleveland Heights. A very lively and world renowned early music orchestra based in Cleveland
Etna Ristorante: Cosy with great food in Little Italy. Reservations essential!
Around Hudson (walking)
Great studio and instructors. Kept my mind and body together through the stress and exertions of historic home restoration while trying to stay reasonably athletic. Check out summer yoga on the village green and special events at Stan Hywet and local breweries. Ask us for the 10% discount code when booking regular classes on line.
Three walking tours past notable homes in the historic district. The Wayside is featured in walk #1!
